Emily Youssouf, former president of the New York City Housing Development Corp., will begin teaching at New York University this fall, it was announced last week.
Youssouf, who headed the HDC from 2003 to 2007, will be a clinical associate professor at the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate where she will teach courses on real estate finance and affordable housing.
"Few if any individuals can match Emily Youssouf's professional background and deep knowledge of the finance and real estate industries," Schack Institute divisional dean James Stuckey said in a press release.
Youssouf left the HDC in 2007 to start an affordable housing division at JP-Morgan but her job was cut the following year when the firm took over Bear Stearns and merged staffs. Previously, she was president of Natlis Settlements LLC, a boutique financial firm.
She began her career in public finance in 1979 as a housing analyst for Standard & Poor's. She later worked as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch's housing finance department and at Prudential Securities, Daiwa Securities America, and Credit Suisse First Boston.
Youssouf earned her undergraduate degree at Wagner College and a masters in urban affairs and policy analysis from the New School University.
