ABQ District Taps New CFO

Don Moya, currently deputy secretary for finance and operations at the New Mexico Public Education Department, has been appointed chief financial officer at Albuquerque Municipal School District No. 12.

Moya will begin his new job July 12.

The district is the largest in the state, with more than 95,000 students and 173 educational facilities. It serves more than 560,000 residents in Albuquerque, most of Bernalillo County, and a small portion of Sandoval County.

The district’s general obligation debt is rated AA by Standard & Poor’s and Aa2 by Moody’s Investors Service.

Montoya will earn $165,000 year, making him the second-highest paid district employee behind superintendent Winston Brooks.

Current CFO Dupuy Bateman will remain in the district’ finance department.

Moya has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the College of Santa Fe.

He was the director of budget and finance for the Santa Fe Public School District from 1999 to 2003.
