Revenue Growth Returns

There was good news in Washington’s monthly revenue report released Tuesday.

“For the first time since September 2008, Revenue Act receipts showed year-over-year growth after adjustment for legislative changes and non-economic factors,” the report said.

Receipts were 2.3% ahead of the same period a year ago, and have been trending upward since November, it said.

Those numbers reflect an improved economic environment, the state’s forecasters said.

“Economic data released since the February 2010 forecast release continue to support the view that the state’s economy has turned the corner and is expanding at a moderate rate,” the report said, noting that employment had increased, as had housing permits, and that consumer spending appears to be coming back.
