Gambling Pays Off

Louisiana casinos paid $598.8 million in state and local taxes in 2009 on revenues of $2.5 billion, according to the American Gaming Association. The casinos also paid out $602.5 million in wages and benefits.

The revenue from Louisiana casinos and horse tracks was the fourth highest among the 13 states with casino gambling. Louisiana is home to 13 riverboat casinos and one casino on land.
