Saving by Sharing Services

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson this week joined a pair of Ohio lawmakers supporting a bill that would make it easier for local governments to share services to save money.

Sen. Nina Turner and Rep. Mike Foley said they would introduce legislation this week to allow communities to collaborate on certain services, such as trash collection and snow removal.

State law currently allows counties to partner with other counties to provide joint services such as police and fire services. Jackson said Cleveland is interested in partnering with adjacent South Euclid for trash services.

The Northeast Ohio Mayors and City Managers Association in February passed a resolution supporting the bill.
