DCA Taps New Deputy

New Jersey Department of Community Affairs acting commissioner Lori Grifa last week announced that BettyLou DeCroce will serve as the agency’s deputy commissioner.

DeCroce’s duties will focus on local government services, ethics, consolidating services among municipalities, and the Open Public Records Act, or OPRA.

“BettyLou brings an abundance of local government knowledge and experience to the Department of Community Affairs,” Grifa said in a prepared statement. “Her local perspective and commitment to shared services will help the DCA as we work with municipalities around the state to curb property tax increases by finding creative ways to run government efficiently and cost-effectively.”

DeCroce has worked as a registered municipal clerk and township council clerk in Roxbury, located in northern New Jersey, where she oversaw redistricting plans, local elections, OPRA requests, land-use ordinances, and budget issues, along with other responsibilities.

From 1990 to 2003 she served as deputy manager of Roxbury.

The DCA includes the Local Finance Board, which weighs in on municipal borrowing and local government budgets.
