N.Y.C. Taps Indy P3 Expert

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed Stephen Goldsmith, a privatization expert, as his deputy mayor for operations.

Goldsmith, who served as the Republican mayor of Indianapolis between 1992 and 1999, last year launched a working group to promote public-private partnerships. The group, called the Council of Project Finance Advisers, was formed with former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean to push for the creation of a federal government entity to provide guidance for state and local governments looking to develop P3s for transportation, health care, energy and water and sewer projects.

In 2007, Goldsmith joined the commercial lending and investment management firm CapitalSource as director of an infrastructure finance and investment group looking for P3 projects.
