Bixby Busts Bond Record

Voters in Tulsa County Independent School District No. 4, which serves the Tulsa suburb of Bixby, approved the largest bond package in its history last week. More than 83% of voters favored the district’s $60 million proposal.

Voters also approved $2 million of bonds for transportation. School bonds in Oklahoma must be approved by a super-majority of 60% .

Bixby superintendent Kyle Wood said the district has posted a 3% annual growth in enrollment for the past 10 years. It has more than 4,700 students but expects enrollment to top 7,000 within seven years.

The district said approval of the bonds would not increase its property tax rate of approximately 26 mills.

Tulsa County Independent School District No. 13, which serves the Tulsa suburb of Glenpool, won approval for a $25 million school facility bond package and $170,000 of transportation bonds.

Voters in Rogers County Independent School District No. 4 approved a $21 million construction bond package. The largest bond proposal in the district’s history will provide proceeds for additional classrooms and a science room at the middle school, $2.2 million of upgrades at the high school, and $1.8 million for renovations at the football stadium.
