Brady Wins GOP Slot

The Illinois Board of Elections formally named state Sen. Bill Brady, R-Bloomington, the victor of last month’s Republican primary for governor. Brady will face incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn in the November general election.

The initial results of the contest between Brady and his Senate colleague Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale were too close for a formal declaration by the board until final results were issued. The final total showed that Brady won by 193 votes. Dillard said he would not call for a recount and announced his backing of Brady.

The state’s fiscal crisis will likely be a focal point of the election. Quinn today will unveil a fiscal 2011 budget proposal that includes a mix of spending cuts, borrowing, and tax increases as the state faces a $13 billion deficit.
