MSRB Announces EMMA Enhancements

WASHINGTON — The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board yesterday announced two enhancements to the muni securities trading data available on its Electronic Municipal Market Access site.

EMMA users will now be able to view municipal trading patterns between any two available dates so they can see a historical view of transaction activity.

Users of the site also will be able to view trade activity based on coupon type: fixed-rate, variable-rate, and zero-coupon bonds.

“EMMA’s market statistics allow investors to view municipal bond trading trends and better understand market activity,” the board said in a news release. “EMMA provides snapshots of daily trade data based on municipal bond characteristics such as trade type, size, sector, maturity, source of repayment, and now, type of coupon.”

In addition to market statistics and trade date, EMMA collects and disseminates primary and continuing disclosure documents as well as information about short-term securities such as variable-rate demand obligations.

A second phase to the short-term transparency system, or SHORT, will collect program documents and display more details about how interest rates are set during remarketings or auctions.
