Consumer Sentiment Index Declines to 73.6

The University of Michigan’s final ­February consumer sentiment index ­reading was 73.6, compared to the preliminary February 73.7 reading and the final January 74.4.

Economists had predicted a 74.0 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 68.4, and the current conditions index was 81.8.

Economists had predicted an 82.0 reading for the current conditions index and 69.9 for the expectations index.
