Another JeffCo Candidate

Vestavia Hills City Council president David Carrington has announced he will run for a seat on the Jefferson County Commission that is opening this year.

Carrington, a local businessman, will run for the seat currently occupied by commissioner Jim Carns, who will not seek reelection. Carns has held the position for one term.

Carrington is among a number of candidates to announce or express interest in running for a spot on the commission. All five seats are up for reelection this fall. The primary is in June.

Only current commissioner Bobby Humphryes has said he will run for reelection, leaving the possibility that the commission could have four new board members later this year.

Part of the reason Carns said he would not seek reelection is the inability of the commission to resolve the $3.2 billion debt crisis surrounding Jefferson County's sewer system.
