James Gill resigned as chairman of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority after 14 years in the post, New York Gov. David Paterson announced Tuesday.
“With his dedication to New York City and the people who live, work, and visit, James has guided the development and maintenance of a cherished public space,” Paterson said in a press release.
The authority manages and supervises infrastructure and site development of commercial, residential, retail, and park land on a 92-acre site it owns in lower Manhattan.
Gill will continue to serve on the board of the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corp.
Gill graduated from Fordham Law School in 1956 and served as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. He was also an assistant district attorney of New York County before joining the law firm of Robinson Silverman Pearce Aronsohn & Berman LLP in 1964, where he is a managing partner, according to the authority’s Web site.
Paterson has not named a replacement.
