Consumer Sentiment Gains to 74.4 From 72.5

The University of Michigan’s final January consumer sentiment index reading was 74.4 following the preliminary January reading of 72.8, the final December number of 72.5, and the final November figure of 67.4, according to market sources.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 73.0 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 70.1 compared to 67.5 earlier this month and 68.9 last month. The current conditions index was 81.1 compared to 81.0 at mid-month and 78.0 last month.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 78.4 reading for the current conditions index and 69.0 for the expectations index.
