Deborah VanAmerongen, commissioner of the State Division of Housing and Community Renewal, will resign effective Jan. 15, Gov. David Paterson announced last week.
“Deborah has ... worked closely with the owners and developers of affordable housing, providing assistance and incentives that led to the development and preservation of tens of thousands of units of affordable housing for low and middle income families, elderly, and disabled New Yorkers,” Paterson said in a press release.
Her resignation signals a further shakeup of the state’s affordable housing agencies.
The DHCR often works with the New York State Housing Finance Agency to provide incentives for affordable housing developments.
Priscilla Almodovar, president and chief executive officer of the HFA and the State of New York Mortgage Agency, resigned last month.
The HFA and DHCR worked closely together to negotiate the refinancing of Starrett City, a 6,000 unit affordable housing development in Brooklyn.
