Scottsdale Eyes More Cuts

Scottsdale city manager John Little submitted a proposed general-fund operating budget for fiscal 2010 to the City Council’s budget committee that calls for an 11% drop from fiscal 2009 spending.

The budget calls for an 8% reduction in city staffing, or about 200 positions. Scottsdale had already laid off or reassigned 25 employees.

The proposed operating budget for fiscal 2010 is about $232 million, down $27 million from fiscal 2009. General fund revenue is projected to be $245 million, down $40 million from 2009 revenues.

Scottsdale’s general obligation debt is rated triple-A by Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s Investors Service.
