Casino Ballot Title OK'd

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has approved the ballot title for a constitutional amendment that would allow casinos to operate in seven counties. The move clears the way for supporters to circulate petitions seeking a vote on the measure in November 2010.

If voters approve, casinos would be allowed in Boone, Crittenden, Garland, Jefferson, Miller, Pulaski, and Sebastian counties.

Michael Wasserman, owner of Arkansas Hotels and Entertainment Inc., said he would hire professionals to acquire the 77,468 signatures of registered voters needed to put the casino amendment on the 2010 ballot. A similar effort failed in 2006.
