Lockhart: Credit Crunch Puts Hard Hit on Trade

PARIS — Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank president Dennis Lockhart yesterday said the contraction of credit is severely cutting trade transactions, imperiling decades of expansion, and hitting consumers of U.S. food in developing countries particularly hard.

“International trade has lifted millions of people out of poverty,” he said. “But that progress is at risk.”
