House Approves $410B Package

The House voted 245 to 178 to approve a $410 billion fiscal 2009 omnibus spending package. The bill includes $40.7 billion for transportation infrastructure with tripled spending for rail over last year, and $41.5 billion for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, including $3.9 billion for the community development block grant program.

The vote was along party lines, except for 20 Democrats voting against and 16 Republicans voting for it. If approved by the Senate next week, the bill would replace a continuing resolution funding federal agencies that expires March 6.
