County Cuts, Dips, & Freezes

Prince William County officials will cut about $26.8 million of planned road, park, and library projects that were to be financed by bonds, dip into reserves, and freeze salaries to close a $190 million revenue shortfall in the $837 million fiscal 2010 budget.

County revenue dropped 32% in 2008 because of the foreclosure crisis, officials said. The government will cut spending by 6% in total and officials plan to take $4.6 million from a $27 million reserve fund.

The budget must be adopted by April 28.
