IFA OKs Flood of Projects

The Indiana Finance Authority has approved 12 wastewater and drinking water projects that would be eligible for interest-free loans if Indiana receives expected clean-water funding as part of the federal stimulus package.

The projects total $36 million and make up the first group of projects that would be given the green light if federal funding is approved, according to the IFA.

One of the state’s largest issuers, the IFA said it notified the 12 communities to begin bidding out their projects. The federal bill passed by the U.S. House last week includes $140 million in wastewater money and $28 million in drinking water money for Indiana, the authority said. The funds would be distributed through the Indiana state revolving fund, which is managed by the IFA.

“These projects are either ready to go or receiving final approvals,” IFA chairman Ryan Kitchell said in a statement. “They will put Hoosiers to work now and build critical infrastructure that will help attract more jobs to these areas and improve public health through improved water quality.”

The approved projects include a $9.6 million wastewater treatment plant in Peru as well as two $5 million treatment plans in the towns of Brownsburg and Rensselaer.
