Treasurer Opting Out

Scott Meacham, who has been Oklahoma’s treasurer since 2005, said last week he would not seek re-election or any other statewide office in 2010.

Meacham, 46, was named finance director in January 2003 by newly elected Gov. Brad Henry. He was appointed treasurer in 2005 to serve out the term of Robert Butkin and won a four-year term in 2006.

“I am completing an eight-year commitment to public service and elected politics,” he said. “Although I very much enjoy public service and the job of being an elected public official, I find I do not enjoy partisan politics and the process of continuously running for office.”

“I have not yet even considered what I might do next in my career,” Meacham said.

Meacham was the chief executive officer and general counsel of the First National Bank and Trust of Elk City when he joined the Henry administration.
