Pro-Bond PAC Reports

The Committee for the Future of East Baton Rouge has raised more than $350,000 to finance its campaign for a $901 million bond package going before East Baton Rouge Parish voters on Nov. 14.

The political action committee said in a campaign report filed last week that it raised $354,250 through Oct. 5 for its effort.

A spokesman for the Baton Rouge Tea Party said the anti-bond group will spend about $1,500 to fight the bond package proposed by Parish Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden.

The pro-bond Committee for the Future said it spent $170,000 during the latest reporting period on design work associated with the Alive project, a proposed education and entertainment venue along the Mississippi River in downtown Baton Rouge that would receive $225 million of the bond proceeds, along with $40 million being sought from Louisiana for site development.

The committee said it would spend between $450,000 and $500,000 on the campaign before the election, in addition to the Alive work.

Other aspects of the proposed bond package include $356.4 million for public safety, $178.3 million of drainage improvements, and $141.3 million of work at the River Center convention complex in Baton Rouge.
