OMB’S Orszag: Deficit Is Serious and Unsustainable

WASHINGTON — Peter Orszag, the Obama administration’s top budget official ,yesterday described the current and future size of the U.S. federal deficit as “serious — and ultimately unsustainable,” and said action was needed for the nation to work its way out of the situation.

Orszag, head of the White House Office of Management and Budget, also took the opportunity to stress the importance of addressing rising health care costs — “the single biggest factor” — as part of efforts to repair the country’s long-term fiscal outlook.
