School Issue Wins by 88%

Madison County voters last week overwhelmingly authorized the school board to issue $61 million of general obligation bonds.

More than 88% of those who cast votes at polls approved the bond issuance. The referendum needed to pass by at least 60% . School officials have said the issue would not require an increase in taxes.

Most of the new debt will be used to build a $40 million high school, but projects at existing schools also would be funded, including new science labs, classroom additions, athletic facilities, and infrastructure.

Madison County has the second fastest-growing school district in Mississippi.
