Transportation Push

Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, D-Topeka, has appointed himself to the state’s Special Committee on Transportation, which will focus on finding ways to finance Kansas’ next 10-year transportation plan.

“One of the most important issues facing the Legislature next session will be the creation of a new transportation plan,” Hensley said.

The 18-member legislative panel will review the current 10-year plan, which will expire this year, and provide recommendations to the Legislature on how to finance highway construction over the next 10 years.

Hensley said the new highway plan must meet the needs of rural and urban communities, keep roads and bridges in good repair, and align transportation investments with state economic priorities.
