Marion District Nets Upgrade

Standard & Poor’s raised the issuer credit of Marion County School District No. 60 in Hannibal to A-plus from A in recognition of its healthy financial operations, maintenance of very strong reserves, and good tax base growth.

The district’s rating review came in conjunction with its planned sale of $1.23 million of general obligation refunding bonds.

“We expect that conservative budget practices will continue to contribute to healthy financial performance and maintenance of sizable combined reserve levels,” wrote analyst Justin Formas.

The district operates eight facilities, including five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school with a total enrollment of 3,514.
