Jobless Claims Rise 25,000 To 584,000 in July 25 Week

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits in the July 25 week rose by 25,000 to 584,000, above analysts’ expectations, according to data released by the Labor Department yesterday.

Claims for the week ended July 18 were revised to 559,000 from 554,000.

Economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters had predicted 570,000 claims in the week ended July 25.

In the July 18 week, continuing claims fell 54,000 to 6.197 million

Economists surveyed by Thomson predicted 6.310 million continuing claims.

The Labor Department said claims “were back to trend” after recent seasonal adjustment issues.

The four-week average was 559,000 this week, down from 567,250 the week before.
