Electric Transmission Plan TANCs

After losing support from member agencies, the Transmission Agency of Northern California voted Wednesday to terminate a plan that would have built or upgraded about 600 miles of high-voltage electric transmission lines in Northern California.

TANC is a joint-powers agency made up of 15 publicly owned electric utilities. It planned to build the TANC transmission project in conjunction with the federal Western Area Power Administration.

The $1.5 billion project was killed after utilities in Modesto, Turlock, and Sacramento withdrew their support, according to a Modesto Bee report.

“Without the financial support of key TANC utility members to proceed with this process, TANC cannot undertake a detailed environmental analysis of the proposed alternative routes,” said a release issued by the agency.
