Jobless Claims Fall 24,000 To 601,000 in June 6 Week

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell by 24,000 in the week ending June 6, to 601,000, below analysts’ expectations, according to data released by the Labor Department yesterday.

A Thomson Reuters survey had expected the initial claims level to drop to 615,000 this week from the originally reported 621,000 in the May 30 week. The expectations ranged from 510,000 to 640,000.

The initial claims seasonally adjusted four-week average declined 10,500 to 621,750.

Continuing claims during the week ending May 30 was 6,816,000, an increase of 59,000 from the preceding week’s revised level of 6,757,000. The four-week moving average was 6,750,500, an increase of 57,250 from the preceding week’s revised average of 6,693,250.
