Peck Shaffer Adds 3 to Public Finance, Housing, and Government Finance

CHICAGO — Cincinnati-based Peck Shaffer & Williams LLP last week announced the addition of three lawyers to its public finance, housing, and government finance teams — Erin A. Sutton, Lewis Diaz, and Romana Kaleem.

Kaleem and Sutton are working as associates in the firm’s Columbus office and Diaz joined the firm’s Cincinnati office as an associate. The firm ranked second among bond counsel in Ohio last year working on 120 issues worth $4.1 billion. It worked on a total of 127 issues in the Midwest worth $4.2 billion for a third place ranking, up from eighth a year earlier, according to Thomson Reuters.

Sutton worked at the firm until 2005 when she left to start a family. She continued her relationship with the firm, working on special projects on a contract basis, according to a statement announcing her addition.

Sutton’s practice includes traditional governmental bond and note issues as well as conduit financings for nonprofits in the capacity of bond, underwriter’s counsel, and issuer counsel.

Diaz joined the firm’s housing practice group with a focus on multifamily and single-family housing. Diaz previously worked for the Kentucky Housing Corp., where he served in various roles over the last six years, including chief counsel.

Kaleem’s practice is in health care and traditional governmental finance. Before joining the firm, she focused on general corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, securities, and commercial lending.

Peck Shaffer was founded in Ohio in 1889, specializing in public financing transactions. The firm said it was ranked fifth nationally among law firms for total number of combined bond counsel and underwriter’s transactions and 18th nationally for volume.

In addition to its Ohio offices, the firm has a presence in Covington, Ky., Atlanta, Denver, and Chicago.
