Import Prices Off 4.2%; Export Prices Slide 2.3%

The U.S. import price index was down 4.2% in December, according to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics yesterday.

Thomson Reuters had predicted a 5.3% decrease for the imports index. The 4.2% decrease in the index followed a revised 7.0% decrease in import prices in November, originally reported as a 6.7% decrease.

Meanwhile, export prices slid 2.3%, after a revised 3.4% decrease in November, originally reported as a 3.2% decline.
