Revenues Dip, Ax Surplus

December’s state tax collections were $33.3 million less than expected, wiping out a slight surplus of revenues collected during the first five months of fiscal 2008. Kansas general fund revenues for December had beenprojected at $571 million, but actual collections totaled $538 million.

Tax collections from July through December totaled about $2.54 billion, slightly less than the $2.56 billion state officials predicted in November. Revenues during the first half of the fiscal year were $27.6 million below expectations.

Individual income tax collections in December were $222.4 million, $12.6 million, or 5%, less than expected. Corporate income tax collections for the month of $57.5 million were 23%, or $17.5 million, less than expected.
