N.J. Gov. Corzine Names Rousseau New Treasurer

New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine last week announced his nomination of current deputy state treasurer David Rousseau as the state’s next treasurer, replacing former Treasurer Bradley Abelow, who now serves as the governor’s chief of staff.

In addition to his role as deputy treasurer, Rousseau is the senior advisor to the governor for budget and fiscal policy and helps draft the yearly state budget. Before joining the treasury department, Rousseau was senior policy advisor to Senate President Richard Codey, and oversaw the Office of Management and Budget as well as participating in various treasury division operations. Rousseau has a bachelor’s degree from Temple University and holds an MBA from Rider University.

“His expertise in fiscal matters will be a tremendous asset in the upcoming months as we implement a fundamental restructuring of New Jersey’s finances and seek long-term solutions to the state’s fiscal matters,” Corzine said in a press release.

The state debt restructuring proposal includes increasing roadway tolls to back a potential $37.6 billion of bonds to defease existing debt and help support transportation infrastructure developments throughout the state.
