The University of Michigan’s preliminary April consumer sentiment index reading was 63.2, compared to the final March 69.5 reading, the 70.5 mid-March reading, and the final 70.8 reading for February, according to market sources.
Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 68.0 reading for the index.
The expectations index was 53.4, compared to 60.1 in March 61.4 in mid-March, and 62.4 in February.
The current conditions index was 78.4, compared to 84.2 in March, 84.6 at mid-March, and 83.8 in February.
The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
