Ex-Political Aide Joins William Blair

CHICAGO - Chicago-based William Blair & Co. this week announced the addition to its public finance banking group of John L. Borovicka - a top aide to U.S. Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill. and a senior member of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley's 2007 re-election campaign.

Borovicka has served for the last five years as the district director and local political director for Emanuel. He served as the deputy campaign director for Daley's successful 2007 re-election bid. Borovicka, who holds a law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, joined William Blair as a vice president.

The firm hopes to tap Borovicka's public sector experience to "build and enhance" its banking relationships with large governments and non-profit institutions in Illinois and beyond in the Midwest. The firm also views Borovicka's background as a plus as it seeks to build its public infrastructure privatization business.

The firm served as the lead financial adviser on Chicago's concession lease deal involving its downtown parking garages and is the lead advisor on the city's proposed privatization of three waste transfer facilities.

"We are very excited to have John join our team," Tom Lanctot, a principal at the firm and head of the public finance group. "His skills are complementary to those of our established team members, and he is highly respected in the marketplace and community."

William Blair ranked 8th last year among senior managers in Illinois, working on 56 issues totaling $750 million of debt and 19th in the Midwest on 62 issues worth $837 million, according to Thomson Financial.
