Obituary

Steven Alexander Shannon, a senior vice president at Piper Jaffray & Co. in San Francisco, died March 18 in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Shannon, a resident of Corte Madera, Calif., was 43.

Mr. Shannon joined Piper Jaffray in July 2007. He was an institutional fixed-income salesperson who covered corporations and public entities. Prior to joining Piper Jaffray, he had a similar role at Wells Fargo for nine years.

"Steve's sudden and tragic death is a major loss to those who knew him," said Brad Winges, head of public finance sales and trading at Piper Jaffray. "Steve was a great salesperson who was very respected and liked by his clients and his peers. He always had an optimistic view of the world and loved the outdoor life. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of being his friend, colleague, or client. Our deepest sympathy go to his wife, children, family, and friends during this time of sorrow."

Mr. Shannon's survivors include his wife, Heather Denison Shannon; his daughters, Catherine, age 8, and Abigail, 6; brother Stewart Shannon; sister Linda Shannon-Miller; and his mother, Maggie Shannon.

An avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, Mr. Shannon was educated at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md., and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be sent to a fund that has been set up to help finance the education of Mr. Shannon's daughters.
