No Big Cuts for Scottsdale

The economic slowdown might curtail some capital projects in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale, but the city is not contemplating budget cuts as severe as those looming over its neighbors.

Finance director Craig Clifford told the City Council last week that revenues will exceed expenditures in fiscal 2009.

Revenues from a number of sources — including sales taxes, property taxes, and state shared revenue — are expected to slow or fall, Clifford said, but Scottsdale’s commercial real estate market will remain strong.

City manager Jan Dolan will give a proposed budget to the council in late March. The fiscal 2009 budget is set for adoption on June 3.
