PABs May Fund Wave Power

State lawmakers have introduced bills to authorize up to $20 million of private-activity bonds for an Australian firm that plans to use offshore floating turbines to generate electricity, according to published reports.

The offshore platforms would harness wave power that would be sent to shore with power lines.

The Australian firm Oceanlinx is negotiating to place one of its turbines off the coast of Maui, the reports said.

The firm’s chairman and chief executive, David Weaver, touted the project this week in a press conference with Gov. Linda Lingle.
