Olympic Windfall Possible

The 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympics could generate as much as $22.5 billion for Illinois’ economy, a study conducted for Chicago’s bid committee found.

The study by California-based Tootelian & Associates was released last week. It projected the city would receive $13.7 billion in benefits from incremental economic activity between 2011 and 2021, and that more than 300,000 jobs would be created.

The financial benefits to the Chicago area of hosting the games have varied ranged in several studies, but most agree there would be a significant boost to the region’s economy, including the creation of new jobs and increased tourism.
