ISM Sees Marginal Growth In Non-Manufacturing

Times will remain tough for manufacturers in 2009, while the non-manufacturing sector will see marginal growth, according to a survey of purchasing and supply management executive released yesterday.

Expectations for manufacturing in 2009 are pessimistic as 65% of the Institute for Supply Management’s December semiannual economic forecast survey respondents expect revenue to be the same or smaller in 2009 than in 2008.

“Manufacturing purchasing and supply executives lack their usual optimism about their organizations’ prospects as they consider the first half of 2009; however, they are somewhat more positive about the second half,” said Norbert J. Ore, chairman of the ISM Manufacturing Business Survey Committee.
