BRADENTON, Fla. - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority plans next week to announce a concessionaire to enter into a pre-development agreement for the Mid-Currituck Bridge project, the agency's first public-private partnership.
The NCTA received three project proposals last week on a new, seven-mile bridge that will span Currituck Sound linking the mainland to resort areas on the northern Outer Banks.
The project is estimated to cost as much as $636 million but the final price will be determined during the design process. The NCTA will negotiate with a concessionaire for the design, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the project and had previously short-listed firms that were asked to submit proposals.
"All three short-listed firms submitted proposals, and the Turnpike Authority remains on schedule to announce its selected [pre-development agreement] partner on Dec. 5," a spokesperson for the NCTA said.
The short-listed firms are the Sound Connector Group, led by HOCHTIEF; Skanska Infrastructure Development, and Currituck Development Group LLC, led by ACS Infrastructure Development, as the lead entity and major equity member.
The NCTA did not receive a proposal from Mid-Currituck PDA Proposers, whose main equity member was Bechtel Infrastructure Corp. It was incorrectly reported in The Bond Buyer on Thursday that the authority was expecting a proposal from the consortium.
