The Delaware County Board of Commissioners this week approved a $51 million issue to finance construction of a new courthouse, despite objections from the county auditor who vowed to block the plan.
Two of the three members on the board voted in favor of the bond proposal. One commissioner approved the plan only after being told the proposal could be terminated by a future board, according to a report in the Columbus Dispatch.
County auditor Todd Hanks, who in previous meetings had vowed to block the bond plan, said it was “ludicrous” the county was moving forward with a plan while facing a deficit that increased to $5.5 million from $4.4 million within the last month.
Hanks maintains he has the authority to block the bond sale, while commissioners’ aides said he did not, according to the Dispatch.
