St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker was among eight people named 2008 Public Officials of the Year last week by Governing magazine.
Baker, the only official in the Southeast to receive the honor, was honored for spearheading a building boom in his city’s downtown while improving schools, parks, and public facilities in neighborhoods throughout St. Petersburg.
The award winners will be profiled in the November issue of Governing and will be honored at a dinner Nov. 12 in Washington, D.C.
