Consumer Credit Fell $7.9 Billion in August

Consumer borrowing decreased by $7.9 billion in August to $2.577.3 trillion from $2.585.2 trillion in July, the Federal Reserve reported yesterday.

It was the first drop in consumer credit since January 1998, the Fed said.

Thomson Reuters had projected a $5.5 billion rise in credit.
