The Kansas City Chamber of Commerce this week endorsed a proposed $815 million light-rail plan along with a Nov. 4 ballot question seeking a three-eighths of a cent sales tax increase to fund it.
Members said the starter light-rail line would benefit the city economically and help launch a larger, regional public transit expansion.
The chamber opposed a prior sales tax increase question to fund light rail in 2001 over concerns that it would benefit too few for the price.
