Directors of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce last week voted to support the $68 million bond package being sought by Johnson County Unified School District 233 on Nov. 4.
The bond proceeds would finance additions to the district’s four high schools and the building of new facilities so the district can move ninth-grade classes to the high schools from middle schools while shifting sixth-grade classes to middle schools from elementary schools.
School officials said approval of the bond package would increase the property tax on a $200,000 house by less than $40 a year.
The district’s general obligation bonds are rated Aa3 by Moody’s Investors Service and AA-minus by Standard & Poor’s.
The chamber’s board also voted to support a proposed 0.125% increase in the countywide sales tax to finance bioscience developments at the Johnson County Education Research Triangle.
