New Building on the Ballot

Douglasville’s planned special election for Sept. 16 will include a $23 million bond referendum for a public safety and municipal court building.

The general obligation bonds would mature in 20 years.

City officials say the new building is needed to provide a more convenient and safer environment for citizens who have business to conduct with the police department. Currently, the department is housed in several different buildings, none of which were built for law enforcement use.

The new building also would provide for a more secure prison facility and allow room for future growth.
