A Resignation in Hartford

Hartford finance director Thomas J. Morrison 3d announced his resignation last week, effective Sept. 10. Deputy finance director Christian Johnson will serve as acting finance director while the city searches for a replacement.

“I appreciate Tom’s years of service to the city of Hartford and his leadership of the finance department,” Mayor Eddie Perez said in press release.

The Hartford Courant reported that last month Morrison was taken off a major health insurance overhaul for city and school retirees that has had a troubled implementation.

Perez’s spokeswoman Sarah Barr characterized the change as a restructuring that moved the overhaul from finance into the personnel department.

Barr said she didn’t have any details on why Morrison retired beyond that he was eligible.

The Courant also reported that Morrison has made numerous appearances before a state criminal grand jury investigating allegations of corruption in Perez’s administration.

Barr said she couldn’t comment on the investigation.
