Gas Agency Reappointments

Gov. Sarah Palin Monday reappointed Scott Heyworth and Dan Sullivan to the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority.

The ANGDA was created by voter initiative in 2002 as a state-owned public corporation to support development of a natural gas pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Prince William Sound, as well as a spur line to south-central Alaska.

Its role has evolved as Alaska moves forward with plans to build a pipeline to move natural gas from the North Slope.

Pipeline plans advanced last week when state lawmakers ratified Palin’s proposal to issue a license to the TransCanada Corp. to build a pipeline linking the Alaska North Slope with the North American gas distribution network.

In July, Palin announced a plan to have ANGDA work together with the Anchorage area’s investor-owned gas utility to build a potentially bond-financed spur to deliver natural gas from the TransCanada pipeline to the Anchorage market.

Heyworth was the moving force behind the 2002 ballot proposition that created ANGDA and he has served on the authority board since 2003, and is currently its acting chairman.

Sullivan has also served on the ANGDA board since 2003.
